Review of Sprint
My focus this sprint was having persistent scores so that placement in races are effected from race to race. I didn’t get to test this out with anyone but think that it will make things more interesting.
I did however, have the opportunity to have brand new players pick up the game and see what they struggled with. I realized that a tutorial needs to be designed around teaching 4 people at a time instead of one at a time. So you will see in my next recap how I plan to do that!
Achievements
Tweaked Zapper Item
I worked on the transition to and from the Zapper Item to make it more smooth and also re-usable.
Pilot Select
Added ability to select your pilot. I also added a default color for each pilot so not everyone has the default red plane to begin with. Below you can see all nine characters. They are stuck in T-pose with no animations but that will be updated in the future.
Persistent Scoring and the Ace
As mentioned above I added scoring to the game. You get more points for better placement. You also get an extra point if you take first. Also to encourage the combat side of racing I added an award called the “Ace”. You are rewarded the Ace if you got the most take-downs. Getting the Ace of the match means you get a bonus 2 points. So far I have really liked this scoring. I am surprised at times when an AI gets the Ace.
Detach Camera Upon Race End
I revisited what happens when you cross the finish line. Now the UI disappears and your placement is displayed.
I also added logic to leave any controlled items and go to this view if you cross the line. This makes the race feel allot more smooth and helps players know when they are done racing.
